Supporting Learners' Organization in Collective Challenges

چکیده
This article presents research that aims to construct a computer-based system that (1) supports learners in organizing themselves in the context of a mediated pedagogic collective challenge and (2) supports human tutors in monitoring the learners’ process, and supporting it. We present the result of an exploratory experiment that helps in understanding the organizational dimensions of this type of learning situation, a theoretical background originating from CSCW, a prototype designed according to this theoretical background and preliminary results.

Supporting Learners' Self-organization: An Exploratory Study
Learners engaged in CSCL macro-scripts are involved in selforganization activities. We present an exploratory study that suggests that Bardram’s theoretical model of collective work dynamics is a pertinent basis for both (1) designing interfaces providing a passive support that engages learners in an explicit organization activity, and (2) making learners’ organization more easily detectable an...
متن کاملAnalyzing Learners' Self-organization in Terms of Co-construction, Co-operation and Co-ordination
We define a pedagogic collective challenge as a CSCL learning situation where: (1) the problem is designed to make learners practice some target domain-related and/or metacognitive competencies; (2) a group of learners is involved, as a team, in the solving of the problem; (3) the solving requires the learners to join their forces; (4) the problem and the setting are designed to create a positi...
متن کاملThe Effect of Dynamic Assessment of Toulmin Model through Teacher- and Collective-Scaffolding on Argument Structure and Argumentative Writing Achievement of Iranian EFL Learners
Considering the paramount importance of writing logical arguments for college students, this study investigated the effect of dynamic assessment (DA) of Toulmin model through teacher- and collective-scaffolding on argument structure and overall quality of argumentative essays of Iranian EFL university learners. In so doing, 45 male and female Iranian EFL learners taking part in the study were r...
متن کاملThe Effect of Social Network Use on EFL Learners’ Second Language Achievement: An Investigation into their Attitudes
The efforts were made in the present study to seek two objectives: determining the effect of Telegram as a social network on second language achievement of Iranian foreign language (EFL) learners, and exploring the EFL learner’ attitude toward using Telegram for language learning purposes. To this end, 40 EFL learners were randomly selected and then divided into two groups of experimental and c...
متن کاملScaffolding: A way for supporting learners in e-learning environments
Introduction: One of the effective ways to help learners improve their learning in learning environments is scaffolding. Scaffolding can be defined as teachers, other learners and resources support of learner on tasks that can’t be done alone. Experts strongly demand scaffolding to be used to help learners on abstractive and complex issues. The aim of this study is to examine the scaffoldi...
